Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my cybersecurity blog. My name is Kevin Smith, and I bring over 20 years of experience in IT. My career began in a help desk role, providing desktop support, and gradually expanded to include server, application, and network support. My curiosity for unfamiliar areas led me to transition into database administration, initially working with MS SQL databases before specializing in Oracle databases. As an Oracle application database administrator, I developed extensive expertise in Linux. After managing large-scale projects, including upgrades, enterprise deployments, and domain administration I had a well-rounded background in IT. I felt a strong calling to protect these systems, which ultimately led me to a career in cybersecurity, a path I have passionately pursued ever since. Now, I am committed to sharing my knowledge and helping others grow in this ever-evolving field.

Outside of work and writing, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. I reside in Fort Worth, Texas, with my wonderful wife and two amazing children who keep me on my toes. In my free time, I prioritize health and fitness, enjoying workouts and training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I also enjoy fishing hence the play on words in “The Phish Hook” blog.
